The contest “Most Energy Efficient Building in Latvia 2019” organised by the Ministry of Economics (MoE) in cooperation with the “Būvinženieris” magazine and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MoEPRD) has ended.

 

Prize winners of the “Most Energy Efficient Building in Latvia 2019” contest:

Sigulda, Institūta iela 10 - 1st place in the nomination “Most Energy Efficient Renovated Multiapartment Building 2019”; Arena of the Liepāja Olympic Centre - 1st place in the nomination “Most Energy Efficient Public Building 2019” Valmiera, Mālu iela 1 and Ķieģeļu iela 8 - 1st place in nomination “Most Energy Efficient Multiapartment Building in Latvia 2019. New building”.

 

Ralfs Nemiro, Minister of Economics: “We all know that there is no better incentive than a good example! In 10 years, more than 800 apartment buildings have been renovated in Latvia. If we look across regions, most renovated buildings are located in Kurzeme – 245 buildings. The most active cities and therefore the most active apartment owners are located in Liepaja, where 114 multiapartment buildings have been renovated, and it is followed by Valmiera, Ventspils, Jelgava and Riga. Considering that most of multiapartment buildings in Latvia are located in Riga, I would like to urge managers of houses in Riga municipality to join in teams and involve in the renovation process more actively, because “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” has renovated only 6 buildings so far. Let today’s winners, the most energy-efficient buildings in Latvia of 2019, serve as an excellent example for other cities, multiapartment, manufacturing and public buildings, and for private houses in becoming more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.”

 

The Ministry of Economics Choice Award for a significant contribution to the promotion of the energy efficiency idea went to SIA “Jūrmalas Mežaparki”, which a good example of a successful energy efficiency project in manufacturing. Similarly, the MoE Choice Award also went to SIA “Valkas namsaimnieks” for its contribution to the promotion of energy efficiency in Valka, as well as for sustainable and high-quality solutions in renovation of buildings, and the head of building renovation projects Signe Kajaka as one of the most active defenders of the energy efficiency idea who has been advancing the process of renovation of buildings in Latvia for over 10 years.

 

Jānis Pūce, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development: “Energy efficiency is one of the solutions to reduce costs and emissions! In addition, it is one of the elements in progress towards climate neutrality. It is commendable that such a contest has been in place for 8 years and that more energy efficient buildings are being built in Latvia. This also confirms that we are becoming more responsible to the environment, that our consumption and national economy are becoming more efficient.”

 

The MoEPRD “Friend of Climate” Award went to Society “Pūre 22” for active action in the implementation of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the best achieved indicators in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the nomination “Most Energy Efficient Renovated Multiapartment Building 2019”. The building is an excellent example of how, by introducing different energy-efficient solutions, it is possible to get an excellent, aesthetically attractive and socially safe and accessible building.

 

Antra Ērgle, chief editor of the “Būvinženieris” magazine: “It is the conclusion of the eight cycle of the Energy Efficient Building Contest and the tenth cycle of the energy efficiency programme for multiapartment buildings, and organisers and participants of these events can celebrate their completion with real satisfaction. Our total result is hundreds of renovated buildings with smaller consumption of resources, more homely environment and longer life, where tens of millions of euros have been invested, as well as knowledge, good will and energy of thousands of apartment owners, experts, builders, project managers and adviser have been contributed. In order to continue the good work, we need to put in place and tell others about the valuable experience in order to keep the pool of resource savers growing.”

 

The jury has appreciated the multiapartment building “Pūre 22” in Tukums novads, Pūre pagasts for its excellent example of sustainable thinking, which has not only contributed to saving resources, but also created a comfortable and tidy environment.

 

In the Internet vote, in a fierce battle with multiapartment buildings “Pūre 22” Pūres pagasts (445 votes) and M.Namiķa iela 15 in Grobiņa (488 votes), most of votes (865 votes) and therefore the Choice Award went to the multiapartment building at Institūta iela 10, Sigulda.

As it is known, the contest “Most Energy Efficient Building in Latvia” is organised by the Ministry of Economics in cooperation with the “Būvinženieris” magazine and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. The purpose of the contest is to promote good practices in the energy efficiency of buildings, to raise public awareness of the heat retention of buildings, as well as the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the possibilities of creating a qualitative and architectonically expressive living space.
