In the upcoming days, the first of the modular homes from Latvia's state humanitarian assistance will head to the Chernihiv region of Ukraine to accommodate the residents of Chernihiv. As a result of negotiation procedures, the Ministry of Economics has signed a procurement contract with LLC "CMB Housing Factory" for the manufacture and delivery of 12 modular homes to the Chernihiv region of Ukraine by the end of the year.

We invite representatives of the media to acquaint themselves with the first modular homes produced by LLC “CMB Housing Factory” before they are prepared for delivery to Ukraine. The event will be attended by the management of LLC "CMB Housing Factory" and the Ministry of Economics, with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia, Anatolijs Kucevols, also invited. The event will take place on September 18th at 11:00 am at the factory of LLC “CMB Housing Factory”, located at Granīta iela 15, Riga. Media representatives are requested to register for the event through the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Economics (prese@em.gov.lv).

As known, from May 21st to 25th this year, a delegation visit to Ukraine (Kyiv, Chernihiv) took place, led by the Minister of Economics Ilze Indrikson and representatives of the Latvia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Confederation of Latvian Employers, and the Association of Latvian Territory Planners. The aim was to discuss potential support for the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region based on their needs.

According to the information provided by the Chernihiv city administration, due to warfare, the private housing fund in Chernihiv was significantly damaged or even completely destroyed in some places. An inspection revealed that a total of 527 dwellings were completely destroyed, 919 were significantly damaged, and 1629 slightly damaged. Approximately 70% of educational institutions were also destroyed, including 2 schools, 1 vocational school, while 25 schools, 37 kindergartens, and 4 vocational schools were partially damaged.

On July 4th of this year, during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting, an informative report titled "On Latvia's involvement in the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region, Ukraine" was reviewed and taken into account. It outlined a planned support of 2,000,000 euros for the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region and the relevant procedures to be carried out by the Ministry of Economics. The goal of the allocated funds was to provide basic services to the residents of the Chernihiv region and support the region's socio-economic development, meeting Ukraine's identified needs through the supply of the most urgent and necessary goods.

Considering also the request from the Ukrainian side, the Ministry of Economics proposed to use the allocated funding, among other things, for the restoration of the housing fund – the manufacture of modular homes for families whose homes were completely destroyed as a result of Russian aggression. As a result of the negotiation procedures, the Ministry of Economics signed a procurement contract with LLC “CMB Housing Factory” for the production and delivery of 12 modular homes of 55 m2 in size with finished interiors, a sanitary unit, and a kitchen section to the Chernihiv region of Ukraine by the end of the year. The total contract amount is 978,210.96 EUR (excluding VAT). LLC “CMB Housing Factory” will also provide installation for one modular home, training Ukrainian specialists, who will ensure the assembly of the remaining modular homes delivered by the Latvian side.
