On June 17 this year, representatives of ministries responsible for tourism and diplomats from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland, as well as representatives from the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine met at the first Regional Summit on Piece and Recovery in Vilnius, Lithuania. A Joint Statement on Tourism Cooperation of the five countries was signed during the summit.
Andris Čuda, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economics attended the summit and signed the joint statement on behalf of Latvia.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine threatens security and growth of the economy, including the tourism sector, not only in Ukraine but also in other countries, so the agreement on cooperation, the definition of common interests, solidarity, mutual support and information exchange are more important than ever. A joint agreement on cooperation of the five countries will contribute to the recovery of a peaceful and sustainable tourism sector not only in Ukraine but also in neighbouring countries, including Latvia,” Andris Čuda says.
The joint statement aims to jointly and severally support Ukraine in the recovery of its tourism sector, to promote the exclusion of the Russian Federation from international tourism organisations, committees and programmes until the Russian Federation stops its military activities in Ukraine and removes its military forces from the territory of Ukraine, to promote the establishment of contacts between tourism authorities and experts in the field, to exchange experiences and good practices, as well as to develop and to deepen friendly relations in the field of tourism among the members of the summit.
