At the ReBuild Ukraine forum devoted to rebuilding of Ukraine, the Minister of Economics Ilze Indriksone expressed support for the Ukrainian people and expressed respect and admiration for the never-fading patriotism and strength, with which the Ukrainian people defend their land.
Participating in the opening session of the Forum as well as in the strategic panel “Restoration Policy: Reforms, Plans, Forecasts”, Ms Indriksone emphasised that Latvia had been one of the most active supporters of Ukraine so far and thanked for the support of all Latvian society since the first days of the war.
It is essential to continue to provide all necessary support to Ukraine, focusing on the urgent needs – the recovery of critical and energy infrastructure. At the same time, it must be recognised that the current support for the rapid reconstruction of Ukraine will determine the progress of the further reconstruction process. Latvian businessmen are ready to continue supporting Ukraine and also engage in Ukraine’s reconstruction processes, offering their expertise in the transfer of technical knowledge and training of employees, as well as skills in the design, construction, energy and other sectors. In this year’s budget, Latvia has provided specific funding for the reconstruction of Chernihiv Region, and we have started communication with the responsible ministries of Ukraine to start targeted work on the reconstruction plan,” the Minister of Economics said at the forum.
Ms Indriksone also pointed out that Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine is affecting the interests of societies of Latvia and other countries, thus it is necessary to continue to provide all forms of support until Ukraine’s full victory in Russia’s aggressive war, as well as the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, territorial integrity and economy. The Minister also noted that Latvia, together with the EU, will be looking for legal solutions to the potential channelling of Russia’s frozen assets to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The “ReBuild Ukraine” forum takes place in Warsaw, Poland, on February 15 and 16 this year. It brings together leaders, businessmen, financial institutions and investors from Ukraine and European countries to build an effective platform for Ukraine’s reconstruction projects, helping Ukraine and its economy recover faster after the war.
An exhibition is also taking place within the framework of the forum, where more than 300 entrepreneurs and organisations from 22 countries around the world offer solutions and cooperation opportunities for Ukraine’s reconstruction, focusing on housing, infrastructure and industrial reconstruction. Six Latvian companies participate in the national stand organised by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, representing construction, production of electric transformers and design sectors.
