On May 26 this year, the Saeima expressed confidence to the Minister of Economics Ilze Indriksone.
As the Minister of Economics, Ilze Indriksone has made the strengthening of energy independence and security promoting the use of local renewable energy sources her main priority. It is also important to continue attracting investment, involvement of support instruments and science in promoting business competitiveness, as well as housing availability in regions.
In this difficult geopolitical situation, when we continue to fight the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are trying to recover from the shock of the rapid jump in energy prices and painfully feel the economic consequences of Russia’s ruthless war in Ukraine, I will have to take swift and constructive decisions so that the Latvian economy and our population suffer the least. As Minister of Economics, I will have to do a lot and even more until the end of the term of this Saeima so that our households feel safe in the next heating season both about the availability of thermal energy and about the ability to pay utility bills, so that our entrepreneurs can switch to new export markets as soon as possible and, together with scientists, create competitive products to improve our economic indicators and the well-being of the population. There are many challenges and things to do, but the elaborations are also substantial. I greatly appreciate the work done by the former Minister of Economics Jānis Vitenbergs for the stabilisation of Latvia’s economy and the re-orientation of the initiated course. I will continue this,” I.Indriksone says.
The Minister of Economics emphasises that it will be important for her to continue a regular dialogue with major organisations representing entrepreneurs, both by listening to their problems and by calling for a discussion on economic challenges.
