Economics Minister Viktors Valainis remotely signed a cooperation agreement with the city council of Chernihiv, Ukraine, represented by the council's secretary Oleksandr Lomako, on providing humanitarian aid. They committed to delivering a certain number of modular homes, playground equipment systems, and furniture for the city's kindergartens by the end of this year.
"Every piece of humanitarian aid is vitally important, as it provides support to the affected residents at a time when the Russian Federation is implementing military aggression in Ukraine. Our provided support will allow part of the families in Chernihiv to face the winter in a new and warm home, while meeting the educational needs of children," emphasized Economics Minister Viktors Valainis.
Under the cooperation agreement, the Ministry of Economics (EM) has committed to purchasing and delivering 12 modular homes to Chernihiv city for the temporary accommodation of persons displaced within Ukrainian territory who have lost their homes as a result of Russian military aggression. Following the negotiation procedures, the EM concluded a procurement contract with SIA “CMB Housing Factory” for the manufacture and delivery of 12 modular homes with a floor area of 55 m2, complete with finished interior, sanitary facilities, and kitchen parts, to the Chernihiv region of Ukraine by the end of this year.
Additionally, the EM will supply 88 children’s playground equipment systems to Chernihiv city, as well as furniture for the operation of pre-school educational institutions (a total of 3300 pieces of furniture – chairs, cabinets, and beds).
As previously reported, on July 4 this year, the Cabinet of Ministers reviewed and took note of the informational report “On Latvia’s involvement in the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region, Ukraine.” It outlined the planned support of 2 million euros for the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region and the appropriate procedures for the Ministry of Economics to execute. The goal of the support within the allocated funding was defined as providing basic services to the residents of the Chernihiv region and for the region’s socio-economic development, addressing Ukraine's identified needs through the urgent and necessary delivery of goods. The Ministry of Economics conducted a survey before initiating negotiation procedures, in which 19 Latvian companies expressed interest in manufacturing and delivering goods or providing services for basic service provision to the residents of Ukraine’s Chernihiv region and for socio-economic development by no later than November 2023.
